The new website is complete. It looks very nice to the layman’s eye including the advertising on it butthere are no shoppers, subscribers or enquiries. What could be the problem? There are several problems that can arise and it is worth investigating.
Is the website created by a new entrepreneur with little experience? Has he or she been careful with the coding? Are there design and implementation errors? Did he or she pay attention to Google’s criteria for “liking” or “penalising” a website? Does the website display the same on all devices, or does the text slip into each other on a mobile device?
Not so simple, is it? What to look out for when designing your website
The content, colors and look of the website should be consistent with the look of the Brand! Where is the visitor coming from? If the visitor is coming from a targeted advertising site, it will be easier for them to understand the new information if the colour scheme of the advertising site is used on the incoming page. For example, if someone is coming from Facebook, the bluish colour scheme will help them understand your product/service more quickly.- In terms of content, the texts should be of the right quantity and quality, — sometimes just a few lines; sometimes more descriptive content. Google’s search algorithm also looks for that.
- It must follow typographic rules. The font must be of a legible size and colour, with contrast and not sticking out of the frame!
- When designing and writing your website, pay attention to the information you want to convey and how it looks! According to statistics, it takes rather an average of 7 seconds to decide whether to stay on the website or not, –so this part is critical.
- The website should be as modern and up-to-date as possible, but with using the simplest technology that does not diminish the user experience!
- Before publishing, all links and buttons should be checked, and tested on the website.
- The page is not allowed to contain code errors.
- Design is important, but not at the expense of understandability!
- Basic SEO rules must be followed for both the wording and the images on the website.
- Technically, the website should be constantly updated (akin to watering and weeding your garden after planting) and the website must be maintained.
- We need at least two levels of protection against attacks.
- Using an older, outdated editor will create unnecessary problems. The website will load slowly due to technical problems; part of the website designer’s labour costs will be spent on this and users will leave the site. They will not wait.
- The loading speed of the page has to be under 2-3 seconds.
- If the website is running on a overloaded server, the site may become unavailable at times.
